Children have more spiritual power than most adults do and when being taught about spells and rituals great care should be taken in their instruction. Children must be taught responsibility first. They must know that they are responsible for what they do and to have respect for others and never use a spell against anyone. I believe they should take part in the coven pageantry and activities from an early age. They should always be a part of all holiday celebrations as a family activity.

Children should be taught what the tools of the craft are and what they are used for and how to care for them. A book of Shadows is the first step in following the way of a witch; it can be used for a diary to keep a record of their activities and record rituals, spells and other information for their reference. From the beginning they should be encouraged to never ridicule others for their religious beliefs. Bedtime stories about the history and traditions of witchcraft and magick are a good way to develop the knowledge and spiritual development. Bedtime prayer is also needed to become experienced at communicating with the Gods.

The casting of spells and magick can be dangerous if improperly used both physically and spirituality. Magick should only be used only if there is no other way to achieve what is needed, note that I said needed not wanted. They should be taught to explore all the options before resorting to magick. Magick is a very serious tool and not a toy.

The use of magick can be dangerous to anyone because it works on a spiritual level and is guided by the subconscious mind. The spirit will make it happen. The problem people have with working magick spells is they fail to specify what exactly they want to happen. An example; you may not to go to work tomorrow so you work a little candle magick. The candle sets your house on fire and you die in the fire. The magick worked, you don't have to go to work, do you?

Children should be taught never to use magick or spells to control the actions of others or to cause harm to anyone or anything. Spells used against others often return with their influences greatly magnified to the spell caster. You have no right to force your will on others. These things have to be learned by children before they are taught the principals of magick.

You should work with your children and help them construct their own witchcraft tools; it can be an enjoyable experience for you as well as your children. By making their own tools as they learn they will be putting their own spiritual energies into them. Teach them to never allow others to use their tools and to never use another's tools. They must have respect for their tools and they are not toys. All tools should be properly dedicated and a record should be kept in their book of shadows. Every witch should have their own private altar, even if the family has a family altar. Remember it is the spiritual input into their tools that counts.
